Bushey and Oxhey Infant School

Educating Today's Child for Tomorrow!

Proud to be part of the Bushey Primary Education Federation - Associate Head Mrs J.Djora

Week 6: 16th Oct 2017

What a busy week we have just had!

We began the week with a Science Assembly, where Nitro Nick made a balloon explode. We then decided to do our own experiment, using Mentos and Diet Coke. We predicted what would happen when we added Mentos to the bottle. Many of the children thought that it would "explode", and so we decided to go outside to do the experiment. The coke shot up into the air when we added the Mentos. Some children drew a picture of what they had seen.

On Wednesday we took part in the whole school Harvest Assembly. The children were really excited to perform the songs for our parents, and they all sang very well for their first assembly at Bushey and Oxhey Infants.

On Thursday we learned about Diwali. A few of our children celebrate Diwali at home, so they were able to share with us how they celebrate the day. We had the opportunity to decorate some rangoli patterns using either coloured rice or by colouring it in.

This week in phonics we learned the sounds 't' and 'i'. Again we have worked on writing these letters correctly, and we even attempted to write some simple CVC words containing these sounds.

We will be moving on to a new topic after half term. Based on the children's interests, we have decided that our next topic will be 'People who help us'. As part of our new topic we will be visiting the local Fire Station, which you will receive details about after Half Term. The Fire Station have kindly given each child a storybook and an activity pack which the children may like to use over the holiday. We would like to thank Mr Chatfield for helping organise this for our children.

To ensure we have sufficient time to read the children's reading books with them, we have decided to change the days on which we will change their reading books. After half term we will now collect and change the reading books on Tuesdays and Fridays.
