In Phonics we have continued to look at split digraphs. The Meerkats are beginning to notice these split digraphs in their reading and some children are starting to use them in their writing which is fantastic. Please continue to practice all the sounds the children have learnt in Reception and Year 1 as well as those high frequency words that have been sent home.
In Maths this week we have been busy looking at measuring. We have been investigating the length and height of different objects in our class and using comparative language to explain their differences. We have also been looking at the mass and weight of objects and carrying out investigations on objects in our classroom to see which items have a bigger mass.
This week in Topic we have been learning lots about Hanukkah. We have been looking at why Hanukkah is celebrated and how Jewish people celebrate the festival of light. The children have found out lots about the traditional foods that are eaten during Hanukkah and the presents that children are given throughout the festival.
We have continued looking at Handa's surprise in English and the Meerkats re told the story of what happened in their own words. We discussed about using AMAZING adjectives to describe the animals and fruits in the story. The Meerkats blew me away with all of the adjectives they thought of. In addition to this we have been writing letters to Father Christmas thanking him for all of his hard work and telling him what we would like for Christmas. The children came up with lots of kind words to say to Father Christmas and have shared what they would like...... including LOL dolls and lime green lamborghinis.
The Meerkats have been very busy in Art this week, they have made Christmas Tree decorations, calendars and candle light holders!! The glitter has been out in full FORCE this week!!
On Thursday we performed out Christmas Play to Reception and Mrs Cooper and they were very impressed. We are looking forward to sharing our performance with you next week!
Another week has finally come to an end Meerkats, make sure you get plenty of rest for our Christmas Production next week.
