O2 have had a very exciting and eventful week!
We started the week with our new literacy topic looking at non- chronological reports. We read a variety of reports focusing on different animals and then labelled the features of each; such as titles, subtitles and diagrams. Next, we worked in small groups to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different reports and enjoyed finding out facts and writing about them. Finally, we finished the week by comparing two reports looking at the similarities and differences between the Ancient and Modern Olympics. Look at our gallery to see some of our learning!
In maths this week, O2 have been learning about partitioning. We practised splitting numbers up into tens and ones to help us add and subtract two digit numbers. Although we found this tricky at the beginning of the week, we persevered and by the end of the week we were using our new knowledge to solve word problems by ourselves!
Our topic this week has focused on the importance of medals and trophies. Many children in O2 brought in medals from home that they or their families had won and enjoyed explaining why they were important and special to them. We looked at medals for some excellent achievements; from running half marathons to receiving an OBE from the Queen! We then used inspiration from these to design our own Olympic medal to create next week.
O2 have had lots of very special visitors this week. On Tuesday, students from the Purcell School of Music came to perform in a special assembly. They showed us how to play each instrument and impressed us with their rendition of the ‘Match of the Day’ theme tune. On Wednesday, Mrs Phethean came to speak to us about the importance of drinking lots of water and eating healthily. We learnt all about ‘eating the rainbow’ and how to make sure that we ate foods that were all different colours.
Finally this week, O2 had a successful ‘At Home’ session. We were very proud to share our excellent phonics learning with our Mums, Dads and friends. Thank you all for coming!
Well done O2 on a very busy and exciting week!
