We had our first Class Assembly on Wednesday morning. We were proud to share with you all that we have been learning at school. Thank you to everyone who came to watch our assembly. We hope you enjoyed it.
This week we have begun to talk about Spring, and in particular, growing in Spring. We read the story Jasper’s Beanstalk, in which the main character grows a beanstalk. Each child planted own bean this week. We are keeping the beans in the classroom, so that we can monitor their progress. We have made our own seed diaries to track their progress.
We discussed the story Jasper’s Beanstalk, and used our imagination to think what might be at the top of his beanstalk. We drew pictures and wrote sentences about what he might see up there.
We did observational paintings of daffodils this week. We looked closely at the daffodils, describing what we could see. We then carefully painted what we saw using different media.
In maths we are continuing to learn about subtraction, and the methods we could use to subtract. We are encouraging the children to prove how they know the answer. They can do this by using objects or drawing a picture to show how they got their answers.
This week in phonics we have begun to learn new sounds. The two new sounds we learned this week are digraphs or ‘special friends’. They are the sounds ‘ay’ and ‘ee’. The children are learning to identify these sounds within words when reading them. We have also attempted to write some words containing these digraphs.
Well done on a great week of learning Hedgehog Class!
