This week our topic has been ‘Under the Sea’. We looked at the story of The Rainbow Fish. We talked about kindness in the story, and how we can show kindness and share with other children. We used the Rainbow Fish as inspiration to paint our own very colourful and shiny fish. The children are showing much more thought and care in their artwork. In writing, the children picked out their favourite parts of the story and wrote a sentence about it. Some children even took their Rainbow Fish on a different adventure. They focused on adding capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to their writing.
In Maths we have been revising 3D shapes. We have been learning various words to describe these shapes, including faces, edges and vertices. We have been looking for cubes, cuboids, spheres, cylinders, pyramids, cones and triangular prisms around our environment.
In Phonics we are continuing to revise Set 2 sounds and working on our tricky words. Please ensure that when you have read your child’s reading book with them each week that you put a comment into their reading record. This will help us to ensure we give your child the most appropriate books for their current reading level. Also, please try to ensure that your child reads his or her book at least twice, to help develop their fluency and comprehension of the story.
The children also enjoyed sharing their Learning Journals as a whole class. They were very proud of their work and many commented on how much they have improved over the year.
We had a very exciting end to this week. On Friday we had a Garden Party to celebrate Prince Harry’s upcoming wedding to Meghan. Everybody came to school wearing red, white and blue. At lunch time, Cook Jo prepared a fantastic picnic for us all to enjoy on the grass outside. We prepared for the party by making crowns, bunting and flags. We had a lovely time on the grass enjoying our picnic.
We ended the afternoon by watching ‘The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe’. The children really enjoyed the live performance. It was a great end to an exciting week in Badger Class.
Have a lovely weekend
