This week has been very busy for the year 1 children in O1. We have returned to looking at 'We're going on a bear hunt' and the way stories can be structured and the words we can use to describe things. The children started by working as group, moving around the room, and thinking of as many words they could to describe different settings. The children not only did some amazing work but were really creative with the words they came up with. We then used some of the words we had learnt to compose and construct out own animal hunt. There was some very good writing and imaginative story telling involved and the children enjoyed thinking of their own stories.
During maths we have been looking at various techniques to double numbers and see if there were any patterns that could help us. The children firstly counted out a set amount of cubes and then had to count the same amount, in order to get the double. There was a good understanding of what we had to do and the children then began to write their work as number sentences. It is beneficial for the children to understand this fully and there was some pleasing work produced this week.
This week has also seen us begin our new topic about the weather. During this period we will be looking at types of weather, what causes it and the weather of different countries. We started our science journey with a walk around the playground to observe the and comment on what we saw outside. The children were very inquisitive and are looking forward to further developing their knowledge of weather.
