To continue with our space theme, we introduced the story ‘’Aliens love underpants’ this week. In literacy we read the story, and spoke about rhyming words. We looked at the pictures of aliens in the book, and described what we could see. We then drew our own aliens and labelled them. Later in the week we read a poem called ‘I’d like to meet an alien’, by Kenn Nesbitt. We discussed what we would do if we ever met an alien.
In maths we learned about the properties of 3D shapes. We identified faces, edges and vertices on each of the shapes. We used 3D shapes to build rockets and race tracks. We also investigated whether the 3D shapes slide or roll down a slope, and discussed why this was so.
We learned 3 new sounds in phonics this week: ow (blow the snow), oo (poo at the zoo) and oo (look at a book). We also learned the tricky words ‘you’ and ‘her’.
Some children shared their home learning with us this week. They shared information about the planets, through a solar system hat and a picture of the planets. We decided to paint our own planets, and used these pictures to identify the colours of the planets before we painted them.
