Week 4: 22nd January 2018

We're going on a bear hunt.

We're going to catch a big one.
What a beautiful day.

We're not scared.

Our focus topic was the story ‘We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. The children really enjoyed this topic and came up with lots of ideas of what activities they wanted to take part in. We began the week by revealing that, at the end of the week, we were having a teddy bear's picnic. The children were so excited. The following day the children wrote invitations to their teddy bears to make sure they attended the picnic.

The children thoroughly enjoyed thinking of their own ideas for the book. These included;

"uh uh! Thunder!

We can't go over it

We can't go under it

Oh no! We've got to go through it.

Crash! Bang! Crash! Bang!"

"uh uh! School!

We can't go over it

We can't go under it

Oh no! We've got to go through it.

Chatter! Chatter! Chatter! Chatter!"

"uh uh! Tescos!

We can't go over it

We can't go under it

Oh no! We've got to go through it.

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!"

The children then had a go at writing these ideas down. They are working on constructing a sentence first and then breaking it down into words in order to write it.

Outside the children have loved making a bear cave out of the large construction. They worked together to build the cave. They had to ‘problem solve’ in order to stop the fabric from falling down. They then decided to write signs for the cave and make bear masks.

In Maths we have continued to solve subtraction number sentences. The children picked a number sentence in order to try and solve it. We are beginning to introduce number lines to help children count backwards to solve the problem.

The week ended with Badgers and their furry friends entering the classroom. All morning the children prepared their feast. They made their own sandwiches, carefully buttering and slicing with a knife. They also had a treat of decorating a biscuit. Outside remained too wet so we had an inside picnic in the hall. The children sat on their blanket and tucked into their picnic (they also made sure their furry friends had a taste). We ended the picnic with singing, dancing and games.

Congratulations on a great week!
