This week in Toucan Class we based our learning around the story ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ by Giles Andreae. We learned which animals we would find in the jungle and learned facts about these animals. We painted pictures of them and wrote facts about them.
We also learned that some animals camouflage for various reasons. We read a book about creatures that camouflage and some children wrote about these. We also tried to camouflage our own animal pictures by colouring them in to blend in to various backgrounds.
In phonics we continue to revise Set 1 and 2 sounds. We are now working on blending words with 4 sounds in them e.g. trap, sand. We are also working on breaking down longer words to read them e.g. tooth-brush. We are also still continuing to work on reading and writing tricky words.
In maths this week we are revising the concept of one more and one less. We are beginning to use number lines to work out these problems, by counting on or back one each time.
To finish off our week learning about jungle animals we watched a performance of The Jungle Book on Friday afternoon. The children really enjoyed this experience.
Next week we will be having a surprise arrival in our classroom on Monday, which will be staying with us for two weeks.
Have a lovely weekend Toucan Class.
