We continued using 'Supertato' as the centre of our learning this week, but took a more English focus with it. We looked at sequencing the events of the story and then turning them in to a story mountain. We then broke that up in to beginning, middle and ending, talking about what each part of a story focuses on and how that fits in with this story. This then helped us to write the story of Supertato ourselves. We broke the story up in to the three parts and then spent 3 English lessons writing it. We all did a fantastic job at our first big story write!
In Maths we looked at subtraction and learnt a new method called the bar model. This links in to our learning on part-whole models but is just a different way of representing the whole number and its two parts. We then began to use all of our knowledge around addition and subtractions, part-whole models, tens frames and bar models to begin to solve missing number problems.
We had an exciting time in Science this week as we carried out our first investigation 'Which material would make the best superhero cape?'. We made predictions, planned our investigation and then carried out three tests to see the strength, toughness and flight ability of 4 different materials (cling film, tin foil, fabric and paper). After recording our findings, we wrote conclusions about them.
Wednesday was a fun day for us as we got to play in the snow!! As it was so unplanned, we thought we would take the opportunity to get creative, and after some extra playtime out in it, we came back and created some fantastic art. In fact it was so fantastic, we have even put it up on display for everyone to see!
Next week's learning...
We will be using the story of Traction Man in our English lessons
We will be carrying out another Science investigation linked to our Science learning on materials
We will be solving missing number problems in Maths using addition and subtraction
And not forgetting our 'Stay and Share' session on Friday morning, straight after drop off in the morning.
