In Phonics we have started looking at split digraphs with a big focus on i-e this week in words such as like and smile. The children are becoming more confident in reading these words and are even beginning to spot them during other lessons. I am very impressed with Meerkats phonics learning this week.
Maths this week has been looking at number. In particular we have been looking at odd and even numbers and halving and doubling. We have been doing lots of practical investigations with resources in order to find out which numbers can and can't be halved and doubled. We also looked at how we know a number is odd or even.
We continued looking at Birthdays around the world, making comparisons to our own birthday celebrations and how birthdays are celebrated in other countries. We read the story of Handa's Surprise in our Art lessons to draw some still life shading and sketching of fruits. Finally this week we spoke about the celebration of Thanksgiving and wrote about what we are thankful for. The Meerkats were using 'and' and 'because' in their writing to extend their sentences to tell me why they are thankful for those things. The Meerkats came up with some great ideas, with lots of them mentioning their families, Cook Jo and Mrs Cooper.
Rehearsals for our Christmas production are in full swing. We have sent home a letter in your child's bag with their part and the costume they will need for their part. Please start sending them in as soon as you have them. Costumes must be in by FRIDAY 30th NOVEMBER at the latest. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend Meerkats! See you on Monday.
