Wow, what a fantastic Enterprise week we’ve had, we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we have raised a lot of money for Jeans for Genes.
We began the week with a very exciting assembly with Miss Mac Kenzie (our Science co-ordinator) to kick start Enterprise week and explain to that we would be become business women and men.
We looked at lots of different products that we could make to sell and decided to make bird feeders. With the colder weather on the way, birds find it more difficult to find food so we wanted to help them.
On Tuesday, Mrs Cooper (acting bank manager) and Mr Breslin (chair of Governors) visited Year One to hear our business plan pitch. The children sold our bird feeders idea to both Mrs Cooper and Mr Breslin and we were given a healthy £30 towards making our bird feeders. Luckily, we collected containers/pot within school to keep costs down!
This week in Maths, we started by making a block graph, to record what food we would like to put in our bird feeders. Our options were seeds, biscuits, fish, chips, worms and nuts. The most popular options were seeds and biscuits so we decided to mix these with fat, for our bird feeder filling. We decided our pots and containers were a little bland and need to be decorated to attract the birds. So, we measured string using rulers and cubes to stick to the containers. Once the string was dry, we could paint the string! Then, we calculated the total profit we could make if we sold our bird feeders for £1. We also solved problems involving adding amounts and calculating change. Well done B1, you were super Mathematicians.
During Literacy, we made posters and signs to display around the school to help sell our bird feeders. We also, wrote instructions to explain how to make bird feeders, ensuring we wrote them in the right order and use bossy words!
Well done B1 for a wonderful Enterprise week! A great way to end the week, by selling our products to parents/carers at the end of the day! All the children were so excited and proud of what they had achieved this week.
