Many children enjoyed taking part part in Enterprise week. The children decided to make bookmarks for the charity 'Jeans for Genes'. We talked about the resources we could use to make bookmarks and how much money each resource would cost. We chose coloured card, books stickers, photographs of the children at school and to add an extra sparkle, lots of glitter! We calculated that it would cost 30p to make one bookmark so decided to sell them for 50p each therefore making a profit of 20p per bookmark sold. We started making our bookmarks and then marketed the bookmarks, informing everyone what we were selling, why we were selling it and the date and time of the sale. Children enthusiastically designed posters and soon the classroom windows were covered in adverts!
This week also saw the introduction of iPads into our classroom. The children worked together to share the experience of using a paint programme to draw self-portraits.
We have been very busy in our outside environment and when some children discovered a spider's web they decided to create their own enormous ones, using large hoops and a variety of coloured wool to hang outside.
On Thursday the children visited the library and chose a book to take home. They also received their first school reading book.
The children have a real interest in singing songs. I have taught them a few songs and now the children have started to ask if they can share their songs with the class. We have therefore decided to begin to create our very own Class Songbook, all ideas for songs would be most welcome!
All of the children managed to stay away from the mud kitchen and painting areas to look very smart for their First Day at School photograph taken from the Watford Observer. We are very much looking forward to seeing our class photo in the newspaper!
Continuing with our learning about our topic 'All About me' the children have been asked to bring in a baby photograph of themselves and family photos in a named envelope (also mentioned in our Home Learning section) on Monday 26th. We are looking forward to lots of conversations and excellent listening skills next week!
