What an exciting week of learning in O2!
In maths this week, we have continued our focus on multiplication. We began the week by using arrays in problems and explained our reasoning to extend our knowledge of multiplication. We then looked at how this knowledge could be applied and also solved word problems to show what we had learnt throughout the week. Next, we created our own multiplication tables showing the relationship between groups, repeated addition and multiplication facts. Miss Horton has been very impressed with our knowledge and understanding this week and how we have explained our thoughts and answers.
In literacy, we continued our topic looking at the story of ‘Beegu’. We used the story maps we created last week to retell the story by writing paragraphs about each picture. We made sure we included expanded noun phrases, time openers and the correct punctuation and we checked our writing to make sure that it was interesting to the reader. We also began to think about where Beegu came from and wrote descriptions of our ideas, as well as thinking about what the characters might say to each other at various points in the story. Finally, we staged our own debate, thinking about the actions of the characters in the story and whether we agreed with these actions. Some of us were so successful in our debating skills that we managed to change the viewpoint of others in the class and we all were able to explain why we believed in a certain point of view.
Our geography learning this week continued to focus on continents, and we used our previous knowledge and atlases to create our own continents fact file. In science, we created two pieces of art work showing the differences between natural and man- made materials and enjoyed working in groups to do this. We have continued to look at contractions in phonics, and have been very busy spotting them in all the reading opportunities we have had this week!
Well done O2!
