This week Badger class joined the pirate crew. They have been busy creating hats, telescopes and eye patches to help them get into character. Outside they have been building pirate ships to sail the seas of Bushey. They have enjoyed creating pirate role plays and it has been lovely to observe and join in with their stories. They have been using elastic bands and geo boards to make pirate pictures which some children have found challenging but many have been very creative. The children also had a go at using teabags to stain paper to create a parchment effect to then draw a pirate treasure map on. Lots of the children have been writing about what treasure they would hope to find on the treasure island, these included swords, necklaces, chocolate coins and diamonds.
In Maths the children have been learning how to share. We read the book 'The Doorbell Rang' and role played sharing out cookies between different numbers of people. Even when I tried to trick the children they were quick to spot that the cookies were not shared equally and were able to correct it. We have also been practising counting in 2s. If possible please practise this at home over the next couple of weeks.
In Phonics, we have been recapping our set two sounds including, ar (car), or (for), air (fair), ou (shout). We have been practising finding these 'special friends' in words before trying to sound them out. For example, if the word was 'loud', the children should find the special friends 'ou' and then sound out the word 'l ou d'. We have also been practising sounding out in our heads to help build up fluency of reading.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
