The children have really begun to settle into life in Reception this week, with lots of them earning achievement points!
We had our first two PE sessions of the term this week, on Tuesday and Thursday. We worked on ball skills in our Tuesday session, and moved around like jungle animals in our Thursday session. The children did quite well with dressing for PE, and all children were happy to participate in the sessions.
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Tuesday. We looked at the story of The Enormous Crocodile, and then did some activities based the story. Some children chose to make traps to catch the crocodile, firstly planning how their traps would look, then using resources in the outdoor area to make them. Other children chose to draw and label a picture of what the crocodile could eat instead of children. A group of children worked together to paint a picture of an enormous crocodile. Finally, more children chose to build traps for the crocodile in the junk modelling area. The children worked so well on these activities, that we decided to continue some of them on Wednesday.
In maths this week, we have begun to look at number recognition, and matching numerals to quantities. We will continue to work on this next week.
