What another busy week for B1, we are so proud of all your efforts with your learning and how quickly you have all settled into Year One!
We began the week, with our first PE lesson with Mr L our CES sports coach. We enjoyed playing a range of games that helped us to practise our listening. We then had our first music lesson with Ms Keough, we enjoyed learning how to identify and record notes in music.
We continued to learn and discover more about holidays during our topic lessons. We began to make our own passports in preparation for our visits to different countries and we began to make a list of countries we are interested in visiting.
During Literacy this week, we have been reading and using the text We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We have been focussing on the predictable and repetitive language from the text e.g. ‘We’re going on a bear hunt, we’re going to catch a big one. We’re not scared! What a beautiful day! Oh, no a . . .’ The children created imaginative actions and used fantastic expression to help them perform and retell the story becoming amazing story tellers! We then identified the different settings within the story and we enjoyed thinking of adjectives to describe them and using these adjectives to write sentences. Some fantastic writing this week B1, well done!
This week, we have also learnt about the amazing author Roald Dahl. On Tuesday 13th September, it would have been his 100th birthday, we celebrated this by learning about one of Mrs Impey’s favourite books ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. We enjoyed learning about the different characters especially Fantastic Mr Fox. We became describing detectives, spotting key adjectives that expressed his character. We were so inspired by Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, that we created our own woodland animals to become friends with him!
In Maths this week, we continued to practise counting forwards and backwards to one hundred, using number lines and squares to help us. We were helped by Mel this week, another Maths wizard and one of Marty’s friends. We worked hard to complete a range of Mel’s Maths challenges, learning about less and solving problems comparing more and less. We received another 3 golden keys this week as Mel was so impressed with our learning that we blew her hat off!
During Phonics, we have been recapping phase three and four graphemes, practising decoding and blending words to read teamed with segmenting to spell words. We practised the ng, ai, ee, and igh graphemes. We enjoyed playing a range of games to practise our skills including What’s in the Box and Countdown.
Well done B1 for another fantastic first week in Year One.
