It has been an children another busy week as we begin to build up towards Christmas. The children started their literacy lessons by constructing sentences about snow scenes using capitals, full stops and adjectives where possible. They then moved onto writing letters to Santa and asking how he was before naming what they would like as presents. Once again the children have shown that they are learning well and applying what they know to their work. They described very well and came up with some imaginative letters.
Our maths sessions have focused on subtraction sums and various ways that we can work out the answers to problems. We used number lines and 100 squares to find the correct answers to an array of sums and the children also began to work out the missing number in some situations. The sessions were then capped off by applying those skills to real life situations and written word problems, allowing the children the chance to see why we need to have those skills in place.
This week we have also been practicing our Christmas songs ready for our upcoming performance and the children are getting more confident with the words. In preparation we have also made cards and decorations for the room.
Finally, the class had the opportunity to see the reception nativity rehearsal on the Friday afternoon, which they thoroughly enjoyed and even commented about the time they got to perform the same piece last year. Where has the time gone?!
