We began this week learning about Hanukkah. Coco’s dad kindly came in to tell us the story of Hanukkah and to talk about what they do at home to celebrate it. He brought in a menorah and dreidels to show to the children. We enjoyed playing with the dreidels during the day. We would all like to say a big thank you to Coco’s dad for visiting us on Monday.
On Tuesday we had another visitor in our class. Steve Hughes is an author and he has written a story called ‘The dinosaur in the shed’. As we have been learning about dinosaurs lately we asked him to come in and read the story to us. We enjoyed listening to the story and looking at the illustrations for the story.
We have been doing lots of preparation for our Christmas Nativity this week. We are practising our songs and learning our words. We took a photo of all of the children dressed in their costumes. Watford Observer will be doing a feature on Reception Nativities, so keep an eye out for our picture.
In phonics we are continuing to learn our set 1 sounds. This week we learned the sounds w, th, z and ch. We call any sound that contains two letters ‘special friends’. When we see these letters sitting beside each other in a word, we know that it makes a new sound. We have been practising reading some words containing these special friends.
Next Wednesday morning we will be visiting Bushey Methodist Church to hear about the Christmas story. We would be grateful for any parent helpers that can come with us to the church. Please speak to Miss Tarrant or Mrs. Dunne if you can help.
Have a lovely weekend Toucan Class.
