We began the week, by practising our Christmas Carols and Songs in preparation for our Christmas Carol Service. We cannot wait to perform the songs!
This week in Literacy, we having been learning about recounts; understanding what a recount is and identifying key features e.g. using the first person ‘I’ and the past tense. We wrote a recount of our weekends and enjoyed sharing these with our class mates. We helped each other to identify parts of our writing that could be improved, for example using finger spaces between words and time openers (then, next, after) to help order our recounts. We also wrote letters to Santa, after receiving a letter from Ethel one of his elves. We wrote replies, to see how Mrs Claus, the reindeers and elves are and also to let Santa know what we would like for Christmas. We can’t wait for our replies from Santa!
During Maths this week, we have been learning about subtraction, using a range of resources including cubes, number lines and squares to practise taking away numbers and amounts. We had lots of problems to solve throughout the week, using our key subtraction skills, understanding that the biggest number must always come first!
In Phonics, we have been comparing graphemes that make the same sound but are spelt different ways: ie (pie) and igh (light), ph (phone) and f (fin) and ff (huff), ea (seat) and ee (sheep).
During Topic time this week, we have been learning about how different countries celebrate Christmas. In art, we made our own Christmas stained glass window art that you can see displayed in the classroom.
Very impressed with your learning and your efforts to show kindness this week B1, well done!
