This week in OR class we have been finishing up our topic ‘People who help us’. The children have made some zig zag books about the different people who help us. We have also been looking at ways that we can help other people. We read the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’, and discussed the various ways in which he was helpful. We then spoke about being kind and helpful to others, and we have been celebrating kind and helpful children in our class. Ted helped another child to find their water bottle, Bobby showed someone how to write the sounds he needed, and Jasmine was kind to another child who had was upset.
In maths we have been learning about the position of numbers on a number line. We have also worked on subtraction, using the mini-me characters to work out our answers. In phonics we have learned the sounds w, th and z. Our new tricky word is ‘are’.
This week the weather has gotten quite cold, and on a few mornings this week we have found ice in our outdoor area. The children were very excited about this, and some children based their play around the ice. We have had an ice-cream shop outside this week, and also an ice-making factory. We found a couple of toys trapped in the ice, and we had to work out how to get them out.
Rehearsals for our Christmas Nativity are in full swing at the moment. Thank you for bringing in the costumes needed, and for practising the children’s words with them. We are really looking forward to sharing it with you all soon.
