O2 have had a busy and exciting time this week.
In literacy, we started a new topic looking at list poems. We began the week by performing a selection of list poems and impressed Miss Horton with our clear voices, use of expression and actions. We then discussed the features of these poems to create a list as a class. Towards the end of the week, we looked at some of these features in more detail, such as alliteration and the use of commas, before writing our own sentences to practise using these in our writing.
Our maths learning this week has focused on 2D and 3D shape. We began by revising the properties of 2D shapes and then challenged ourselves to find new ways of sorting these into groups. We then compared these to 3D shapes, and looked at the different language we could use to describe both. We also explored symmetry in 2D shapes and enjoyed cutting and folding different shapes to find as many lines of symmetry as we could. Finally, we made our own 3D shapes using air dough and counted the number and shape of each face.
We really enjoyed our PE lesson this week as we continued to look at dance. We warmed up by following moves from other dancers and then created our own animal dances! We worked in groups to think of dance moves for different animals, including penguins, tigers and elephants. We thoroughly enjoyed performing our dances for each other and seeing if we could guess the animals!
In Computing this week we began our new topic looking at different ways to research and find out information. We linked this to our RE topic of religious symbols, and used a mind mapping program to create our own mind maps. We chose one religious symbol and thought of as many questions as we could about that symbol.
Finally this week, we began our Christmas celebrations! We painted our own Winter scenes; carefully painting a coloured background and adding white trees in the snow. We really enjoyed beginning to spend time in our ‘Santa’s Grotto’ role play area and have been practising Christmas songs at every opportunity!
Well done O2 on an exciting week of learning!
