Educating Today's Child for Tomorrow!

Proud to be part of Bushey Primary Education Federation Headteacher: Mrs M Cooper

Week 10: 18th March 2019

What an exciting week we had learning about firefighters! We began by talking about the many things that firefighters do to help us. We then thought of questions we would like to ask the firefighters during our visit. Some children wrote down their questions so that they wouldn’t forget them on the trip.

On Thursday we had our trip to the fire station. We listened to Mr. Chatfield tell us what the firefighters at Watford Fire Station do. We then learned about all of the equipment that firefighters carry with them in their fire engines. We also got to climb up and sit on the fire engine.

Next we had a tour of the fire station. We saw the offices, the kitchen, the bedrooms, the gym and the rooms where they relax. After that we went outside to have a look at their tallest ladder. Mrs. Forty and Evie’s Mummy volunteered to go up in the ladder and helped Squawky to get safely to the ground using a parachute.

Finally we all had a chance to use a hose to spray water, which many children said was the highlight of their trip. On Friday the children wrote about their trip and also painted pictures of what they had seen at the fire station.

We would like to thank all of the parents who came along on the trip with us. The children really enjoyed it and we were very grateful to Watford Fire Station for a lovely morning.

In maths this week we have been learning about sharing. We have been sharing cookies between teddies at a picnic. We are working on giving out one cookie at a time and making sure that all teddies have the same amount of cookies for the picnic. Parents can help with this at home by encouraging children to set the table or to share things out fairly between family members. Next week in maths we will be learning about doubling.

In phonics we continue to learn Set 2 sounds. Please keep practising these with your child and encourage them to use these sounds in their writing. As always, please practise your child’s tricky words with them each week and let us know if they need new words to be added to their tricky word tags.

Next week we will be visited by a paramedic who will be bringing an ambulance in to the school. We will also have our Spring Assembly next Wednesday. We will have an assembly in the morning and another in the afternoon and all are welcome to attend.
