It was lovely to welcome all of the children back to school on Wednesday morning. The classroom was buzzing as the children caught up with each other after the holiday. They were excited to tell each other about the presents they had received and the things they had done during the time off. Many of the children chose to draw and label pictures of what they had done. We then shared these with the whole class over the last few days.
On Thursday afternoon we had our first competition afternoon of this term. The children wore their house t-shirts, and took part in various PE competitions. These activities included relay races, throwing beanbags into hoops and gathering as many cones as they could in a period of time. At times they had to work in pairs, and at other times they worked as part of their house team.
The children investigated magnets this week. We explored how to use them and then sorted various objects depending on whether or not they were magnetic. We then explored the classroom with the magnets, identifying as many magnetic objects as we could around the classroom, and then recording our results. We learned that some magnets actually repel each other, and spent some time exploring this.
For the next couple of weeks we will be consolidating the phonics that we have learned last term. We will be working on reading and writing simple words, using the sounds that we know. We will also be revising the tricky words, and having a go at writing them. Therefore we will not be collecting in sound books and tricky word tags or giving them out for the next couple of weeks.
