Happy New Year!
What a busy three days! We have been working so hard this week and the children have fitted in so much learning.
In Maths we have been continuing our learning about adding. This week’s challenge was to find different ways of making 10 using Numicon. The children loved this challenge and enjoyed exploring ways to make 10 using two or three pieces of Numicon. They then had a go at writing the number sentence and using mathematical language such as ‘add’ and ‘equals’.
The children have enjoyed sharing their holiday news with their friends. They have drawn lovely pictures and attempted to write a sentence about their holidays. We are so proud of the children’s hard work and enthusiasm for their writing.
The children have really enjoyed the story of ‘The Billy Goats Gruff’. They have been acting out the story and have started writing a retelling of the story by creating their own small books. In the creative area they have been collaging their own troll and the children wanted to see who could make the scariest troll.
On Thursday the children had their Competition afternoon. They wore their house t-shirts and took part in house team games. They listened well to the instructions for each race, which included obstacles, and used skills such as throwing. They won lots of achievement points for their houses.
For the following few weeks we will not be collecting in the children’s sound books or tricky word tags. This is because we are recapping the sounds to ensure the children are secure before moving on to set 2. We will be practising the tricky words and when your child is secure with the first set of tricky words we will add more. Please continue to practise both the sounds and tricky words every day to help your child embed these.
