Happy New Year to you all!
We would like to welcome Mrs Rattue to Class BR who will be teaching the children every Friday.
It has been a busy start to the term. Our first topic this term is 'Space.' We started by sharing our existing knowledge about space. It is wonderful to already see lots of children bringing in items from home relating to our topic. We have had alien families flying in UFO's, superb constructions of rockets, a number of space fact books. Our space role-play is really coming along.
In Literacy we have been reading the book 'Whatever next'. It is all about a bear who decides he can fly to the moon. We have talked about what we would like to take with us if we went to the moon and writing lists. We are also looking at sequencing the story and creating our own space stories.
In the Autumn term the children completed their Set 1 Phonic sounds so this week there have been no new sounds to learn. Instead, we have been revising sounds and tricky words.
We can see that the children practised their Reading over the holiday and we have been very pleased with what we have heard.
In Guided Reading sessions, the children are learning how to read a story within small groups and then discussing the texts.
Children have expressed an interest in building their own space rockets, planets, astronauts, aliens and we would therefore be very grateful to receive any more materials that can be used for these!
