A Welcome to Bushey and Oxhey Infant School
From the Head Teacher
Bushey and Oxhey Infant School resembles in many ways your local village school. The school offers a family community type atmosphere where we believe that a positive relationship between home and school makes a significant impact on a child’s learning. As a school we are committed to working in partnership with parents and operate an ‘Open Door’ policy, encouraging parents to visit, help and feel at home in the environment.
The school is situated in attractive school grounds where the children are able to feel safe and secure. There is a good size playground where the children have access to a variety of equipment at lunch time play. The outside area of the Foundation Stage supports the Foundation Stage Curriculum well, by providing a variety of environments for the children to explore. There are six spacious light and airy classrooms with a large school hall and separate dining room.
We aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum in line with our school motto ‘Educating today’s child for tomorrow’. We achieve this through our well planned and regularly reviewed ‘Curriculum Map’. Children’s learning in many areas of the curriculum is met by our ‘Creative Learning Journey’, a cross curricular approach to learning that enables the children to see links between many of the subjects they learn for example between History and Art, Maths and Science.
The world is an ever changing place and we do our best to develop the life skills that children need in order to cope with the complexities of life. This is achieved through the Every Child Matters outcomes, our P.S.H.E. curriculum and the ethos of our school which is to enhance every child’s self esteem, to be independent, make decisions, make mistakes, have the confidence to ask questions and be able to articulate their points of view.
We expect our children to show respect for one another and for those adults supporting helping and caring for them. We also expect them to care for the school environment and the wider school and global community. This therefore leads to high expectations of behaviour so that every child is able to access learning and begin to realise their potential without distraction.
Our staff are skilled at assessing each pupil’s individual level of development and then supporting them in moving at their own pace to a high level of achievement and progress that meets their current needs. We feel it is important that each child has the opportunity to have all round development, so that they succeed academically and socially helping them to become good citizens and being able to make a positive contribution in their future lives.
There is an active Parent/Staff Association, which has both fundraising and a social role for both children and adults. Parents and other family members and staff are automatically members of this association and are encouraged to be active within it.
On leaving Bushey and Oxhey Infant School our children normally continue their education at Bushey Manor Junior School, which is about a five minute walk away. There is close liaison between the two schools providing continuity and a good transition for the children.
I hope you have found this information useful and warmly invite you to visit the school and find out more about us. Keep an eye on the website for up and coming events which you are welcome to attend.
We believe we have a happy unique school and look forward to working with all new children and their families.
